Advocacy

Every StepStone participant is assigned an advocate upon entering the program. Advocates serve as crucial support systems for survivors of domestic violence, empowering and guiding survivors through their journey towards stability and healing. Advocates help develop safety plans, offer life skills training, provide referrals to community resources, and more. By standing alongside survivors, advocates help them regain control over their lives, ensuring they are not alone as they work toward safety and healing

Support groups

Support groups provide a safe and confidential space where individuals with shared experiences come together to offer mutual support, understanding, and encouragement. The sense of community facilitated by support group can help reduce feelings of isolation often felt by survivors of domestic violence, providing emotional healing that comes from knowing they are not alone. Led by trained professionals, sessions often include discussions on coping strategies and developing healthy relationships. Through support group, survivors can be empowered through a network of solidarity and the building of healthy relationships based on trust and mutual understanding.

Therapy

Therapy is a vital component of recovery for survivors of domestic violence. The StepStone therapist offers survivors a safe space to process their trauma and begin healing. Through therapy, survivors can develop healthy coping mechanisms, learn to set boundaries in relationships, and build the tools to break the cycle of abuse. One-on-One therapy is offered to every program participant at StepStone.

Court Advocacy Services

StepStone employs a full time Protection Order Liaison. The Protection Order Liaison leverages community resources and relationships within the legal system to keep victims out of danger. Through her connections with both the advocacy and legal sectors, the Protection Order Liaison gives referrals to victims, encouraging them to utilize the resources in our community to overcome the traumas of domestic and sexual violence and stalking. Working directly with survivors and responding to their individual circumstances, she assists survivors in seeking protection orders, helps file documents, and accompanies victims to court hearings, upon request.
